Hello Everyone, Just wanted to welcome you all to my new resource The Aspiring Filmmaker website I’m Dean Haycox and I put together this website to document my journey into Documentary Filmmaking.
Like most of you I imagine, this is not your full time career, if it is awesome. But for most of us, we are doing this part time, me included. My full time job I work for the Ambulance Service here in the UK. So I will do my best to keep adding great content to this site.
I’m not sure where you are in your Doc journey, for me, I’m right at the beginning. Like, literally at the very beginning. At this point I don’t know very much about doc filmmaking at all. I have recently bought my first camera and lens (see the images below) I purchased the Panasonic G7 with the Olympus 12-40mm lens. Is this the right camera for Doc Filmmaking?? I’m not sure, I have heard lots of good things about this camera and seen some amazing footage of its use. Only time will tell for me I guess, and as always, I will keep you posted.
My first Documentary Experience
I thought I would let you know that in my first documentary that I will be filming is when I got to Nepal in October. I’m off out there to hike up to Everest Base Camp. I will hopefully be filming two docs, one on Everest Base Camp and why people from all over the world go up and down there every year and the 2nd, I doc about the guides and sherpas of Nepal. I’m really looking forward to my first time opportunity to do some filmmaking. I will of course keep you all updated in the run up to when I go in October.
During and after this trip I will be doing a behind the scenes look (I always like these behind the scenes videos, I feel like a spy lol) at how I plan, film and edit these documentaries from start to finish.
What to expect from me and The Aspiring Filmmaker Website
Along the way I will be sharing my mistakes, failures, successes as well as the gear I use, pre production, post production, everything that comes with being a Doc Filmmaker. I plan on adding a post each week, eventually. Wether that be a written post or probably more like a video tutorial on some topic about filmmaking.
So thank you for reading this first ever post (I hope you are 🙂 ) on the website, please feel free to look around, the resources page is a good place to start, my recommended resources for filmmakers although there isn’t much as yet but that will change over time. I hope you can join me on my journey and would love to know more about yours too
